Andy Murray's chances of qualifying for next month's ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London were hit by a third-round defeat to David Ferrer at the Shanghai Masters.
Murray looked in cruise control, taking the first set comfortably, but Ferrer rallied to win 2-6 6-1 6-2 in what has been a below-par season for both players.
Defeat means the British No.1 slips to 10th in Race to London standings and he is now 95 points off eighth place, the last of the qualifying spots available. Victory would have taken him within five points of eighth, but Ferrer has now leap-frogged his opponent in the standings.
